Jeff Rossman's Longstanding “American Bistro” Closes in Hillcrest, Reopens in La Mesa

After being a part of the Hillcrest neighborhood for 13 years — which in the restaurant business is pretty much a lifetime — Terra is moving to new, somewhat greener, pastures. The move to the community of La Mesa is a bittersweet one for Executive Chef/owner Jeff Rossman and his team, but it was time for a facelift, and, hey, at least the restaurant parking will be easier on everyone. Rossman is excited to introduce a farm-to-table restaurant to the East County, where there doesn’t seem to be many; he is determined to bring diners closer to the source of their meals. Organic and earthy is the theme of the new Terra, from the food to the décor, with entirely reclaimed pieces and materials from the beloved original location.

As far as the delicious food and beverage list goes, it is composed of only the freshest and most natural products — indicative of Rossman's philosophy of organic and locally sourced food, highlighted in his book, "From Terra's Table." Looking for something to do (and enjoy) Tuesday through Friday? Their weekly specials hook patrons up with deals on 100 percent Angus burgers, draft brews, fish tacos and Whole Maine lobster, and even a special BBQ night on Thursday with House Smoked St. Louis Ribs. (Is your mouth watering yet?) Take a break in their rustic, chicken-wire-framed bar and sip on a refreshing alcoholic or nonalcoholic selection of unique, signature drinks. Even though it is in a new location, Terra is still the great “American Bistro” it has always been, but now you can at least find it on Google Maps … a slight improvement from the prior location.
