What's New: The Mint

After months of construction, the latest entrant to Old Town Scottsdale's nightlife district, The Mint, opens its doors this month to what will surely be much fanfare. Housed in a former bank building (which was also a print shop and the old W Scottsdale offices), this restaurant/nightclub is the latest offering from Evening Entertainment Group, the owners of popular hotspots such as Sandbar, RnR, Myst and several other concepts. This is anything but an old shell, however, and the guests who brave the long lines outside will find a state-of-the-art, 7,000-square-foot space with a high-end sound system, a retractable lighting system and an open-air concept once they walk through the doors. In addition to its nightlife aspects, The Mint will also attempt to rule the foodie scene thanks to its partnership with chef Johnny Chu, who made his name as the force behind Downtown Phoenix's Sens. Here, Chu has crafted another menu of Asian tapas and special dishes, such as dim sum on Sunday. And while the visuals and food will likely be top-notch, also take note of the coed bathrooms ” actually, take note of the full bar in the bathroom. Yup, after waiting who knows how long to actually get in the bathroom on a Saturday night, rest assured that another cocktail can be had right outside the stall door.
