The Internet is awesome. Not only does it allow us to shop in our PJs at 3 a.m., it also serves up incredible short films from some of our favorite fashion houses. These are some of our top favorites, first among them “Muta.” Directed by Lucrecia Martel, this short, the second in Miu Miu’s Women’s Tales series, is creepy in the best possible way. Faceless models scurry and slither around a boat, wearing gorgeous clothes and accessories from Miu Miu’s fall 2011 collection. We promise you this much – you’ll never look at bugs the same way again. Watch it here: http://vimeo.com/26684981
New York City Ballet principal Janie Taylor, partnered by choreographer/corps de ballet member Justin Peck, is breathtaking in Chloe’s ethereal, dance-inspired spring/summer 2011 collection in this short directed by Bon Duke. All we can say is: Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Watch it here: http://www.nowness.com/day/2011/4/16/1377/janie-taylor-for-chloe
A true work of art, The Curve of Forgotten Things is a brilliant collaboration between Rodarte, director Todd Cole, and indie rockers Deerhunter. Elle Fanning stars, pirouetting through the empty rooms of the historic Baldwin House in Rodarte’s spring 2011 collection, which was inspired by 1970s northern California, Redwood forests, and the gold rush. Super stylish girls – the kind of cool chicks you want to be best friends with – take to the San Francisco streets in this aptly titled short featuring the fall 2011 3.1 Phillip Lim collection. Watch it here: http://vimeo.com/26575760
Starring a wet and pissed off Raquel Zimmerman, Alexander Wang’s fall 2011 short film, shot in an abandoned factory in Red Hook, Brooklyn, was part of a pretty brilliant guerilla marketing campaign. On July 13, Wang “rented these trucks, and the video will be projected from the trucks onto the sides of buildings. Some will be roaming, some planted,” the designer told WWD. If you didn’t happen to catch it in NYC, you can watch it here: http://www.alexanderwang.com/
Also shot in Red Hook – the industrial neighborhood seems to be having a moment right now – Oscar de la Renta lends his lady-like luxe fall 2011 collection an edge in this short by the legendary Craig McDean. It model Karlie Kloss stars, strutting her stuff in some hot latex thigh highs. Watch it here: http://youtu.be/LLwZM4Px348
Model-of-the-moment Arizona Muse hangs out in the gardens of Marrakech’s Palmeraie, looking deliciously beautiful in Yves Saint Laurant’s spring/summer 2011 campaign video, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Watch it here: http://youtu.be/jkfpdO4DvFU
Imagined, written and directed by the always brilliant Karl Lagerfeld, this 20+ minute short film was originally screened at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc at the Cap d’Antibes for the 2011/12 Chanel Cruise collection. Starring Chanel friends and favorites Anna Mouglalis, Amanda Harlech, Kristen McMenamy, Freja Beha, Baptiste Giabiconi, and plenty more beautiful people, Lagerfeld says the film is “about an ill-advised use of money which begins with violence and ends with feeling.” Watch it here: http://www.chanel.com/fashion/8-cruise-2011-12-ready-to-wear-chanel-fashion-show-24,2#8-cruise-2011-12-ready-to-wear-chanel-fashion-show-24,2
We fell in love with the first installment of Miu Miu’s Women’s Tales short film series, “The Powder Room,” when it debuted in January, and we still can’t get enough. Director Zoe Cassavetes beautifully captures Miu Miu’s spring 2011 collection in the ultra-feminine environment of the films title. Watch it here: http://youtu.be/idDu-rfzIkM
