College Dropout

MTV Star Collaborates On In-Your-Face Line of Tees

College Dropout offers the screen tee for those who want to make a bold yet clever fashion statement. MTV reality star and Miami resident Rachel Robinson and friend Veronica Portillo are the brains behind the not-so-subtle T-shirt line. The non-discriminating selection offers designs for women, men, gays, lesbians, kids and pets (lesbian dogs included). If curious about where these inyour-face slogans originate, Robinson says, "The majority of the time it is from random comments Veronica and I overhear while hanging out in bars. The following day we run it by all our friends to decide if they are funny enough for tees. T-shirt slogans are usually for men. It's always some form of innuendo. It is apparent that the majority of T-shirt companies appeal to men," she says. Robinson emphasizes that their main objective is to help empower women, without leaving men out. This approach has garnered them a loyal following, willing to wear slogans like "Cancel my subscription, I'm tired of your issues" across their chest. Although College Dropout handles most of their retail business through the online Web site, those who happen to be in Los Angeles, where the company is headquartered, might catch a glimpse of one of the designs in a select clothing store. T-shirts like these are not designed for the timid, so only those brave enough to handle the stares should choose a slogan, grab a tee and show the world what they believe in.
