Flagship stores are usually the property of cities like New York or LA — but Miami, specifically Bal Harbour, is now home to Fendi’s brand-new American flagship store. But wasn’t there always a Fendi store at Bal Harbour? Well, yes, but now it’s all-new, redesigned in a style that Fendi feels more closely mirrors its modern look and feel. The new image debuted in 2005, shortly after Fendi was acquired by LVMH Group and Prada, when modernist Architect Peter Marino designed the seven-story Palazzo Fendi, which serves as the company’s headquarters and European flagship. The new store in Bal Harbour emulates this look by using a lot of the same luxurious materials of Italian origin, such as Basalt, striated travertine and even rusted metal — all the better to perfectly house designer Karl Lagerfeld’s modern, feminine designs. To celebrate the store’s unveiling, Miami made another score, the exclusive stateside unveiling of Fendi’s Spring 2009 collection. The line was shown this past winter at Club 50 — the members-only rooftop club atop the spanking-new Viceroy hotel — to a warm reception. Could anything less be expected from the name that represents Italy’s best? We don’t think so.
