When America’s best DJ and favorite street/political artist collaborate, the results can only be described as revolutionary. “Z-Trip’s Revolution A Party for the People,” which recently debuted Friday nights at Rain nightclub inside Palms Casino Resort, features graphics designed by Shepard Fairey, the creator of the infamous Barack Obama “Hope” poster. “[Fairey and I] share a lot of the same qualities,” says Z-Trip. “He does visually what I do audibly.”
Z-Trip and Fairey met when Fairey did the graphic design for the documentary Scratch, which showcased Z-trip, among others, and can be credited with bringing the art of turntablism to the masses. Z-Trip, who pioneered the mash-up, has crisscrossed the globe performing at music festivals large and small. He’s also opened for the Rolling Stones and will be featured later this year in the highly-anticipated video game DJ Hero.
