Apocalypse Now
The sky is falling! The sky is falling! The once harmless ranting of adorable Chicken Little is now becoming reality. Yahoo! News is reporting that a 7.8 magnitude earthquake has struck central China causing immense devastation. So far, nearly 9,000 people have died with several people still buried under the rubble. About 900 kids were buried due to the earthquakes destruction. The Xinhua News Agency is reporting that 80 percent of the buildings in Beichuan county have fallen. The Earthquake was felt all the way down to the likes of Thailand and Vietnam. This earthquake is coming off the heels of the much publicized cyclone that hit Myanmar. The first US aid relief sent over 14 tons of supplies to the estimated 2 million cyclone victims. Myanmar reported that the death toll is at 31,938 with still at least 30,000 missing. Yahoo! News is reporting that the U.N. and others have said that the death toll will eventually reach 100,000 or higher. Thankfully, the US are not the only ones helping aid the people of Myanmar as two planes carrying 56 tons of medical supplies and aid from Europe-based humanitarian groups. Since, I traveled to both of this countries no more than a year and a half ago this series of unfortunate events has truly tugged at my heart strings. 944 Magazine sends out our best wishes and prayers to the families and friends who have been affected by these terrible events. It would be tremendously appreciated to any and all who can help donate to these countries aid and relief. There has not been a relief set up to aid the Chinese as of this moment, but feel free to give help if you can to the people of Myanmar.
