Lo and behold, American swimmer debuts his eight new shiny medals on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The issue, which is out on stands Aug. 20, pays homage to Mark Spitz by wearing the medals around his neck. Spitz won seven golds in the 1972 Munich games. The 23-year-old has won a total of 16 medals over his career, 14 of them gold has donned the magazine more than any other swimmer. "He broke a record every time he went into the water," Sports Illustrated Group Editor Terry McDonnell said in a statement. "He won eight gold medals, all on heart, ability and courage." Once the games are over, I bet Phelps will bank loads of money from endorsements and such. His face will be on Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and frosted Flakes cereal boxes.
