Okay, so G is for giving...Giving back...Giving away. Both are extremely good...All those fancy dresses taking room in your closet? What are the chances you'll every really wear them again? (They take up a lot of room in there, no?)
De-cluttering your closet can make you feel good in more ways than one. Recently I had the pleasure of meeting LA Prom Closet's Mary Jo Salcido who started the organization with some girlfriends a few years ago. Annually, they throw the Dress to Remember Event that donates dresses to deserving high school seniors who are in financial difficulty. The goal is to provide girls with the opportunity of capitalizing on that dream. We collect new and used formal gowns and then donate them to deserving young ladies. They work to promote self-esteem and give the ladies the much-needed recognition for staying in school and pushing forward. LA's Prom Closet provides a stepping-stone for girls to realize their potential and the insurmountable opportunities that await them.
LA's Prom closet is a 501c3 non-profit organization that accepts new & used drycleaned/pre-washed gowns collected are donated by the LA community, businesses, colleges and high schools. They rely on monetary donations from individuals and corporate sponsors to fund our efforts and make a difference in the lives of others.
GIVE BACK: LA's Prom Closet is holding a fundraising event next week on Thursday, November 19th at the Canal Club in Venice from 7pm to 10pm.
They accept all types of formal dresses. So, if you or someone you know has ever been a bridesmaid, a sorority girl or attended high school formals, donate your dresses to their organization. Before submitting your dress, please ensure that it is dry-cleaned or washed so that we may provide the student with the best quality possible.
