San Diego is currently in the midst of the 10th annual Asian film festival. This is a yearly festival that showcases films from around the world with an emphasis on Asian American films. I attended my Beijing birthday, and was thoroughly impressed by the fun yet educational content of it. The documentary follows around Howe Snyder as he looks at the rapidly changing lives of the youth of China. Snyder enrolled in a children’s stand up comedy class in 1996 and came back in 2008 to see how their lives had changed. The children had lived through and witnessed the fastest industrialization of a nation that had ever happened. Asian film festivals in general have been gaining popularity in recent years as the Asian film industry has been growing. The San Diego film festival offers an eclectic look into Asian culture, and is going on for about a week more so I encourage all of you to go out and see a film.
