Thirty-one contemporary artists from the Bay Area and beyond integrate the phenomenon that is modern Chinese culture in the Chinese Culture Center Presents Tense Biennial: Chinese Character exhibition. Chen, program director for Intersection for the Arts, the exhibition features a wide array of media including photography, video, painting, animation, sculpture and installation art displayed at both the Center's downtown San Francisco gallery and in a number of satellite storefront windows throughout Chinatown.

Androgyny: New Work by Sergei Isupov in Phoenix

Renowned as an accomplished technician and painter, Isupov has gained notoriety for his complex surrealist figures and imagery. Born and raised in Stavrapole, Russia, Isupov's eastern European upbringing provides him with a unique prospective of the world that translates in his ceramics, drawings and prints. The exhibition features Isupov's latest body of work, including twenty large scale heads and numerous drawings. Hidden surrealist and dream-like vignettes appear on the bottoms of every piece, adding to the overall narrative of the represented character. Charting the Canyon: Photographs by Klett & Wolfe in Phoenix

The Phoenix Art Museum will be the first to show a comprehensive look at the work of Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe, a collaborative photographic team, focusing on the Grand Canyon. "Charting the Canyon" will include about 30 photographs ranging from a modest 11 by 14-inch print to a panorama nearly 10 feet wide. The exhibition offers visual delights including the humorous layering of a 19th-century drawing with contemporary photographic details, the extension of an Ansel Adams view into a serene panorama, and the illusion of three-dimensions with a stereopticon viewer built for the twenty-first century, among many others in this unique exhibition.
