THE CONTEMPORARY JEWISH MUSEUM’S
2009 DOROTHY SAXE INVITATIONAL
EXHIBITION CELEBRATION & EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW
February 25, 2008
Celebrated artists mingled with art collectors and Museum supporters at the Contemporary Jewish Museum on February 25, 2009 to celebrate the opening of The Dorothy Saxe Invitational exhibition, New Works/Old Story: 80 Artists at the Passover Table. The Invitational builds upon a long-standing tradition at the Museum of inviting artists from a variety of backgrounds to explore a Jewish ceremonial object within the context of their own mediums and artistic philosophy. This year, select local and national artists reimagined the seder plate used during Passover.
The special event was also a gala night to honor Museum Trustee Dorothy Saxe, a nationally known arts and craft collector. This year, the Museum’s Invitational was renamed to recognize Saxe’s tireless advocacy and support of the arts. Over 300 guests came to celebrate her leadership while enjoying the chance to preview the exhibition, to meet many of the participating artists and to purchase the works on display.
Other attendees included Dorothy and George Saxe, the Museum’s board chair, Roselyne Chroman Swig, members from the Gala’s Host Committee , co-chaired by Joyce Linker and Susan Moldaw, Trustee Ron Wornick and wife Anita, Janie and Don Friend, Jeffery Frankel and Trustee Alan Mark, Sue and Dick Wollack, Trustee Ruth and Alan Stein, and Pam and Larry Baer.
