June 11, 2008 –San Francisco, CA – The worlds of music and fashion once again collided on Wednesday night (6/11) as John Varvatos celebrated the opening of his seventh US boutique in San Francisco at 152 Geary Street. The new 6,500 square-foot store, with entrances on both historic Geary Street and Maiden Lane, is situated in the Union Square area. Maiden Lane was completely closed off to the public so that the over 600 partygoers could let loose to the sounds of Grammy Award winning, Los Lonely Boys. The event benefited local charity, The Guardsmen, with 100% of the evening’s ticket sales raising a total of $50,000.
Tickets to the eagerly anticipated event were sold out within days of being listed, and the eclectic crowd included San Francisco locals such as Danielle Steel, Todd & Katie Traina, Trevor Traina, Kit Kodic, Elizabeth Touw, Kimberley Miller, Gary Friedman, Bo Lasater and Rock n’ Roll Photographer Jim Marshall.
The extraordinary evening featured a live auction hosted by John Varvatos and The Guardsmen co-chairs’ Kit Kodic and Todd Traina. The auction featured iconic Rock n’ Roll photography from the legendary, Mick Rock, Danny Clinch and local San Franciscan, Jim Marshall. Also, auction was a black Gibson Melody Maker signed by all three members of Los Lonely Boys.
The prime Union square location features a soaring, double-height entry is hung with an extraordinary lighting fixture comprised of more than 1,500 vintage bulbs. The space, consisting of two floors, has been stripped down to reveal the beauty of the original elements, exposing brick walls and wooden joists. The floor, though new, is made of reclaimed walnut. A monumental steel and wood staircase was added for access to the second floor, where a 1960’s Parisian steel fireplace also makes a dynamic statement.
